AC Milan have announced the signing of centre-back Pierre Kalulu from Manchester City for a fee of £25 million.

The move is seen as a significant coup for the Rossoneri, who have struggled defensively this season and have been linked with several high-profile signings in recent weeks.

Kalulu has made over 100 appearances for City since joining from Rennes in 2019, but he has found himself on the fringes of Pep Guardiola's team in recent years.

He will now link up with former AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer at San Siro, with both players coming through the ranks at the club.

"Having watched Pierre Kalulu play for City, I am convinced that he is the right player to help us achieve our goals," said Milan president Silvio Berlusconi.

"He brings experience and leadership to our defence, and we believe he can be a key part of our success next season."

The deal also includes a sell-on clause, which could see City receive a further £5 million if Kalulu moves on to another Premier League club.

For his part, Kalulu expressed his delight at joining AC Milan, saying: "I'm very happy to join AC Milan and I'm looking forward to working with the coaching staff and the players.

"This is a big opportunity for me and I hope to make a positive impact here." The signing of Kalulu is expected to boost Milan's chances of competing for the Serie A title, which they won last season under manager Stefano Pioli.

With Kalulu and Kjaer already established in the squad, the Italian giants should be able to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.
